WHAT IT IS

Everything is designed to feel safe.

Calm, predictable world

No timers, no failure states, no performance pressure. You play at your own rhythm, in an environment designed not to overwhelm.

Every part of A Special Day is built to reduce pressure, uncertainty, and cognitive overload. Sequences of actions are predictable. Pacing is slow and intentional. Environments are stable: nothing sudden happens, nothing unexpected fires without warning. Predictability isn't a limitation here. For many players on the autism spectrum, predictability is the foundation of safety. It gives players the space to explore the world at their own rhythm, on their own terms, without anxiety about what might come next.

Sensory-friendly settings

Adjust brightness, contrast, color intensity, audio layers, and animation speed. The world matches your comfort level, not the other way around.

Sensory experience is deeply personal, and for players on the autism spectrum it's an area of particular importance. A Special Day gives every player full control over their sensory environment. Sound layers for ambient audio, UI, and interaction are independently adjustable. Animation speed can be slowed down or turned off entirely. The interface is deliberately low-clutter, with clean spatial layouts and no sudden auditory or visual surprises. The goal isn't to remove sensory input. It's to give players ownership over it.

Meaningful daily routines

Cook breakfast. Water plants. Tidy a room. Small, repeatable activities that build familiarity, confidence, and a sense of rhythm.

Routines are one of the central supports for autistic individuals. They provide structure, clarity, and predictability in a world that can otherwise feel chaotic. In A Special Day, routines take the form of simple, low-stress activities: cooking, organising, watering plants, small tasks with friendly NPCs. These activities aren't about efficiency. They're about comfort, mastery, and familiarity. Each repeated action makes the world feel a little more manageable. The game tracks a daily Routine Meter: completing different categories of activities throughout the day builds a sense of structure and a gentle feeling of accomplishment. Routines never punish the player. They only reward.

The Blandness system

New places start muted and grey. With every visit, they gain colour, warmth, and life, mirroring how unfamiliar places become familiar over time.

Blandness is a core visual and emotional system in A Special Day, a gentle metaphor for real-life adaptation. When the player first enters a new location, it appears in a muted, neutral, low-detail state. As they interact with the environment and return on subsequent days, Blandness decreases: the world slowly gains colour, clarity, and life. With repeated visits over multiple days, Blandness may disappear almost entirely. This mirrors something real: the more safe, repeated experiences we have in a place, the more predictable and manageable it becomes. The player experiences this as the world coming alive around them, not as a challenge to complete, but as a natural consequence of showing up.

Build your own space

Your home expands as you play. New rooms unlock. A personal safe zone that's always predictable and always yours.

Home is where every day in A Special Day begins and ends. It is steady, predictable, and always under the player's control. New rooms unlock as the player engages with the world. Layouts can be rearranged. Decorations reflect personal choices. This isn't just cosmetic customisation. It's a sense of ownership and control. The home is the player's anchor: a place where nothing sudden happens, where every interaction stays the same, and where the player decides the timing and pace of everything. For players who find outside environments challenging, home is always there: reliable, familiar, and entirely theirs.

Who is it for?

Designed primarily for players on the autism spectrum and the people who support them.

01

Players on the spectrum

A calm, controllable world where you set the pace. Practice familiar situations: social routines, daily tasks, new places, without pressure, without judgment, and with full control over your sensory environment.

02

Parents & caregivers

A safe, low-pressure environment you can trust. Sessions are gentle and predictable. A Special Day can support emotional regulation and independence, and because it adapts over time, it stays relevant as your child grows.

03

Therapists & specialists

A light, interactive tool that can complement sensory integration or routine-building work. Not a replacement for therapy. A structured, game-based environment that mirrors real-life situations through gentle, repeatable play.

ADAPTLY PLATFORM

The engine behind every session.

A Special Day is the first game built on Adaptly, our AI-adaptive platform that observes how players navigate routines, choices, and interactions. It builds a lightweight profile of each player's comfort levels, sensory preferences, and engagement patterns over time.

No forms to fill in. No manual settings to configure. Adaptly learns through play, adjusting the game's pace, sensory intensity, and suggested activities to match each player, session by session.
